Were our disciplinary actions right or wrong?
On Saturday, night last week, our 14 year old son asked if he could go to the movies with his friends. I told he could and that I wanted him home by 10:00 PM. 10:00 PM came around. I was worried to death so my wife and I sat downstairs waiting, 12 AM rolled around and I wanted to call the police. We both turned off the lights and fell asleep downstairs. At 2:00 AM, we heard we heard someone coming inside, sneaking to be exact. I immediately turned on the light. My wife buried her head in my hands and started crying. I comforted her and got up. I asked my son,"Where have you been?" My son just looked down and said,"I was having fun. I guess I lost tract of time." I sniffed the air for a minute and then said,"Boy, have you been drinking?" He didn't say anything until I grabbed his arm and said,"Answer me." He said,"Yes, sir." When I started unbuckling my belt, my son sprinted toward the stairs. I got a hold of him and folded my belt. I put my son under my arm and spanked him 15 times with the belt. My son was screaming for me to stop. My son cred," Please stop. It hurts." When he cried it hurts, I grabbed my son by the arm and said,"Oh, you think that hurts?" I pulled him over to my wife and said," Look at your mother. You see her face. Now that hurt her just as much as that whipping hurt you when you didn't show up till 2 in the morning." My son looked down and said,"Sorry, mom." I said,"Get your butt up to bed, we will deal with the drinking in the morning." I wasn't abusive, but our son won't talk to us since that happened yesterday, were our disciplinary actions right or wrong?
