How bad can a urinary tract infection get?

Well I have had them in the past growing up, but I hardly ever get them anymore, but I decided to have sex while I still hd the uti and I felt worse the next day, like the pain was more inense, I am taking AZO for the pain but do not want to go to the doctor, I dont like the antibiotics they give me, they cause m to have a yeast infection, so is there anyting I can do at home to feel better?
